September is Louboutins and Lipstick’s blogiversary. I’ve been blogging under this name for an entire year! I’ve learned a lot, made some new friends, and had fun along the way. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some of these friends in person and develop relationships and there are others that I feel like I know so well but I’ve never met. Blogging can be strange like that, you have all these friends you’ve never even seen in person!
When I started, I made it known that this would not be the place for fantastic photos. I don’t have a fancy camera, a person to take my pics, or the means to pay a professional photographer so I use my phone or my point and shoot camera and it works. I would also be super uncomfortable in front of the camera. A model I am not. Blogging can also be a very narcissistic hobby, job, etc. and I would never want someone to come to my page and think of me in such a way.
I like to think my humble little iphone photos and lack luster titles set my blog apart. I read a lot of blogs and they all start to look the same after a while in regards to photos. It’s a lot of the same poses, the same titles, and sometimes the same clothing and accessories. Phrases like “on repeat” and “can’t get enough of…,” to my wish list” are said way too much. My Bloglovin’ feed quickly runs together and I’ve read or seen the same thing on 3 blogs before I know it. I’ve caught on to the fact that there are blogger “norms,” but that doesn’t mean all bloggers have to conform. Do your own thing! You don’t have to Instagram a picture of your Starbucks cup every single time you go or go buy flowers just for the sake of sticking them in your purse to take a photo for Insta. If that’s your thing anyway, you do you, but don’t do it because you feel like you have to. I’ve done it, but more so as a way to poke fun at being “basic” than anything else.
I started this blog after spending a year or so reading other blogs and thinking “I can do that.” I wanted to have a place to share my favorite beauty products and my #ootds. I appreciate high fashion and the artistry behind it, but I wanted to create a space that showed you can have great style and not break the bank. I know I have “Louboutins” in my title, but my pair rarely makes an appearance. If someone sees something they like on here, I want them to be able to go buy it and not have to save up for a year before they can purchase. I love seeing products and clothes on other blogs that I can actually afford. I stopped reading a lot of blogs because they just weren’t realistic. Just because you have the money to spend, doesn’t always mean you should.
Annie Malone posted this on her blog “Home of Malones” recently and I wanted to shout “AMEN!” when I read it.
What is your number one tip for blogging?
This is probably super cliche, but it’s always the first thing I think of when I’m asked about blog tips. Do it because you enjoy it. There are so many blogs out there these days and people are making money and fame and whatever else from blogs these days, but you really should only start a blog because it’s something you are passionate about and you enjoy. And if fame and money come along with it, then good for you. I don’t blog for fame or money. I love it because it’s my outlet to relate and learn from other bloggers, gives me a sense of accomplishment, and also allowed me to make some really cool friendships that I never expected.
I’ve also shared some personal struggles and issues on here. Having somewhere to write my feelings or what’s on my mind is so helpful. Sometimes it’s things I’ve kept bottled up inside for sometime and it felt so good to finally release them and let it all out. That’s the beauty of having your own blog, you can write about whatever you want whenever you want. Within the next year, I hope to migrate to wordpress.org and get a custom website design, but we’ll just have to see how that goes. I like what I’ve got for now!
If you read this blog every day or just check in on occasion, I thank you. When I started I said I was doing this for fun and it didn’t matter if the only person that read it was my mom. I still mean that, but it’s nice to know some others stop by from time to time.
To celebrate, I’m doing a little giveaway. I wish I could give away a pair of Louboutins, but that is not in the budget at this point so instead I’m going to give away some of my favorite things. You can enter by leaving a comment and I will pick a winner at random. Good luck!
Thanks again for reading and commenting. I appreciate it so much and I love reading your comments!
