Tutorial Tuesday: Easy, Every Day Contouring

February 21, 2017

I know you’ve seen crazy pictures of people with all kinds of colors and lines all over their face to contour and been a little freaked out. I get it. It looks scary and difficult, but it doesn’t have to be.

To me, using a contour powder is less scary and equally as effective. I can do the crazy lines contour and it does look fab, but ain’t no body got time for that every day.

Contouring is a great way to make your face look slimmer. You highlighter the features you want to play up and contour the features you want to down play.

I contour every day using only 4 products and 4 steps.

Makeup Up Geek Contour Powder in Break Up
Nars Ita Dupe (the best contour brush)
RCMA No Color Powder or Laura Mercier Translucent Powder
Real Techniques Sponge (damp)

  1. Carve out cheekbones with MUG powder & Ita brush and blend upwards
  2. Place LM or RCMA powder along/underneath contour line with RT sponge. This helps clean up the application and make the contour line more precise.
  3. Contour down the side of the nose with MUG powder and Ita brush. It’s easy to over do the nose contour so lightly dip your brush in the powder and tap off the excess.
  4. Double chin? Contour that ish away! Place MUG powder right along/underneath chin line and blend down.

It’s important to balance out your face so you don’t just have 2 lines along your cheekbones. If you have a larger forehead, you can contour it. I don’t so I BARELY apply the lightest little bit of powder along my hairline on my forehead.

**Obvi, I over exaggerated the lines for this pic**

Before and After

I know a lot of people use bronzer to contour and that might work for some, but it doesn’t for me. Bronzers are meant to add warmth to the skin and for contouring, you want a more cool toned powder. Depending on your skin tone, you might can get away with it.

The Makeup Geek Contour Powders are amazing and SO affordable. They are pigmented and blend out so easily. I highly recommend them!

I don’t contour everyday, usually only special occasions lol. But you look amazing!
I used to use bronzer because you couldn’t tell lol. I guess it blended in nicely with my skin tone lol. I know better now. 🙂

Your contour looks amazing, and so does that purple lipstick your wearing!! I sometimes use bronzer to contour. It depends on the product if I’m able to or not or what shade it is. I like something that’s not too warm and not too cool for contours. If it’s too cool it looks really ashy or muddy on my skin! I’d love to try the MUG one you use!

    • loubsandlips February 25, 2017 at 3:33 am

Thank you! Some bronzers work, but not all. When I first started, I used a bronzer that was WAY too warm and dark. It was a hot mess! The MUG powders are amazing.
