I have the lightest shade in both concealers. Tarte Shape Tape in Fair and Kat Von D in L1. Also, by no light, I mean normal, regular light. Nothing special. No light may insinuate darkness, but not in this case. It’s late when I’m writing this. Jesus take the wheel, eh keyboard.

I drew on my hand with a Sharpie to test the coverage. I blended both out with a damp sponge. As you can see, the Kat Von D covers better.

–The applicator size is very different
–Tarte is Ulta exclusive, KVD is Sephora exclusive so you have to go to one of those stores or order online
–The color range is very different. Fair shade concealers usually work for me, but I’ve never been ever to use a lighter shade to highlight because I was already wearing the lightest shade. KVD saved the day and I finally have a concealer shade that is light enough to use for highlighting.
–I actually use both of these every day.
–I think they work best when blended out with a damp beauty sponge.
–Using these 2 with the RCMA No Color Powder gives me a bright undereye and completely covers my dark circles.

I don’t think one is better than the other. I like both of them and would (and will) repurchase both.

I am now realizing this post may not have been helpful, but maybe you learned something!

I love the idea behind this post. I was definitely helpful because everyone looks for something different in a concealer. The Tarte one is definitely very hyped up, so when the major ytbers reccoment it we take it with a grain of salt. But loved your comparison review.

I’m glad you liked it! I always wonder about super hyped up YT products too. I had to try it myself to see what the deal was.

I’ve seen Tarte at Sephora, not just ULTA? I have yet to try the KVD one, so I will get it next time. Love the Tarte one, but not that applicator!

I don’t love the applicator either, but since the product is so good I look past it. I didn’t know it was at Sephora, I would have picked up a back up during the VIB sale. Oh well! Maybe it was just Ulta exclusive when it released.

They definitely live up to the hype!

I’ve always been so nervous about spending a bunch of money on concealer before. I’m like you and fair complected so I get it. I recently got the BH Cosmetics Pro Concealer and it’s amazing. Definitely under-hyped for the awesomeness of it. But I might just have to give these two a try.

I haven’t tried that concealer but I love the BH Studio Powder. Kat Von D is the only brand that really caters to us fair skinned gals!

Both of these concealers have been on my wish list for so long! I really want to try the Tarte one because everyone raves about it. I use Mac Pro Longwear, but I want to find something cruelty free!

    • loubsandlips May 12, 2017 at 3:35 am

I think the Tarte is closer to the MAC Pro Longwear formula, but I think you’d like both. Your post inspired me to go CF and thankfully both of these are.

HAHA! This post made me laugh! I just LOVE my KVD concealers!! My sister LOVE’s her Tarte…but I recently turned her on to KVD…and she’s kind of turned me on to Tarte …so I suppose we use both as well…and this post is 100% spot on!! LOL XOXO

So glad I could give you a laugh. I was laughing at myself while I was writing it. Better to laugh than cry! I think they work so well together. They need to be a 2 for 1 deal haha

I’ve never tried these, but now I want to!
